This fact has long been discussed but standing to Jeff there is not any simple solution, even if no plugin developer really likes to have their files exposed of course. As I understand it, on Windows systems, all VST3 plug-ins have to be installed in (a sub-folder in) Prog Files\Common Files\VST3 or Prog Files (x86)\Common Files\VST3. So if that dir does not exist simply create it. As for the destination plugin dir, I don' t think (correct me if I am wrong) that the vst3 standard instead forces you to keep your plugins in the system partition rather than in your preferred plugin folder despite that SE saves the exported vst3 to system/program files/common files/vst3 without even giving you a chance to select another path. I deselected the default VST3 folder and selected it again in the settings.

Yes, as you say, once I was shown how to install the samples they automatically put themselves in the SampleTank folder on "C:\Program Files\IK Multimedia\SampleTank". VST3 devices, in most cases, will be installed by default to the dedicated VST3 Plug-In System Folder at C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3.
